56.The Valley Of The Ordeal
On the road of life there is a deep, dark valley. It is called the Valley Of The Ordeal. In our mind’s eye we might visualize that road through the valley as a stormy place of fire, blinding smoke, turmoil and heartache. It is a place filled with fear, dread, uncontrolled sobbing and tears. The pathway is dark and treacherous for all who stumble along it in blind agony. Everyone who goes through life must, at some time, walk through that miserable place. I know this is true because I have walked the road through the Valley Of The Ordeal…and what’s more, I want you to know this: I survived and – so can you!
How I survived is a long story but let me say this to you just in case you have not yet been through your personal valley. I survived the walk down the road into and out of that place by God’s grace. You see, God knew where I was going, he saw the road I was walking and he knew in advance, where it would take me. So, anticipating my need, He forearmed me with His special gift, the gift of unshakable faith in Him.
As I journeyed through my Valley, I indeed, found it to be forbidding, dark and long. But, and this is the important fact for you to remember in the days ahead – with faith in God, nothing us unbearable. God is always in control. He is always with and for us. He understands (consider what happened to his Son) and because of His great and unlimited love – He gives each of us the gift of faith that gets us through our individual – Valley Of the Ordeal.
As we all know, in times of great distress and heart-felt sorrow, words never seem to say enough. Even so, I think Catherine Marshall said it quite well when she wrote:
“God comforts us with strength by adding resources. His way is not to whittle down the problem, but to build up the resources, “ So, with our faith and trust in God and His powerful resources, we can live each day with the sure support of His – great strength.
